If you have been considering trying to get a listing in the Best of the Web Directory, I have three words for you – go for it. You may start whining about the price – or this or that – coming up with some excuse not to do it. To win you over, let me break down the actual benefits of getting listed in the BOTW directory.Benefits of BOTW Directory Listing

• Traffic - While the direct click-throughs on your listing may not be huge in number, they’re going to be targeted. Targeted traffic is worth more. The direct traffic from the BOTW directory is not super targeted, but most that I’ve seen have stayed for multiple pages, browsing my site(s) in depth. Targeted and sticky traffic is a very good thing.
• Authority - Before submitting your website you should look around at possible places for you to try to get listed. While you’re doing this, look at some of the other sites in your niche that are listed. Is your site as good? Better? If you get approved and listed, your site will be alongside trusted, authority sites, which will reflect really good on your domain. Forget pagerank and Alexa rank and all the other numbers for a moment. In 2010 going forward it’s still all about authority. This will continue to be more and more true as the years go on.

Here are some tips for getting into the directory.

• Useful – Make sure you site is actually useful!
• Aged – Your site must be at least six months old.
• Clean – Your site should be above board, not employing any so-called “black hat” tactics.

There are other guidelines you’ll want to read, but if you have a decent site that is more than six months old and has plenty of content, there’s a very good chance you can get into the BOTW directory.
