If A then B …. would have a circle A inside a larger circle B. If you were in circle A you'd have to be in circle B, but it would be possible to be in circle B without being in circle A.
"If and only if" would have A and B be the exact same circle. In essence, you'd have just one circle, and you'd label it A and B. The B circle wouldn't be larger, because "if and only if" implies that you can't be in circle B without also being in circle A.
