    It is a dumb question, but you aren't dumb for asking it.

    If an .exe file is in your Windows directory, leave it alone. Run your scanners (SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes, both are free) and let them do the dirty work for you.

    There will be so many .exe files in your Windows directory that you won't be able to sort through them all, and determining if any of them are legit MS files isn't possible.
